RingCentral AI Receptionist review: pricing, with or without RingEX
RingCentral's AI Receptionist costs $49 a month for 100 minutes, then $0.50 a minute. What 200 calls cost on its own or with a RingEX phone plan, and who it suits.
RingCentral AI Receptionist, which RingCentral calls AIR, is an AI agent from one of the big business phone companies. It answers calls around the clock, answers questions from your website, FAQs and documents, routes callers by name, department, location or intent, books appointments and texts callers (product page).
You don’t need RingCentral’s phone system to use it. You can buy AIR on its own and put it in front of the phone line you already have, or add it to RingCentral’s RingEX business phone plans. Which way you buy it, and how many minutes your callers use, decide what it really costs.

Who it’s for
AIR suits a business that likes buying from an established phone company and wants the AI to sit in front of its existing line. Routing by department or location makes it a sensible pick for an office with several people or a business with more than one site; you can run unlimited receptionists for different lines or locations. It’s also the obvious choice if you already pay for RingEX: adding AIR is $39 a month.
It’s a weaker fit for a busy single-location business on a budget. At $0.50 a minute after the first 100, it’s one of the more expensive per-minute options once volume climbs.
The standalone plan is sold only in the US and Canada. In the UK, Australia and the EU you can get AIR only as an add-on to RingEX.
What callers hear
Callers reach an AI agent in natural conversation, in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German or Portuguese. It switches language mid-call if the caller does, and you choose from eight voices. It can ask your intake questions to capture a lead, book or reschedule an appointment in Google, Outlook or Calendly, or text a booking link instead.
When the AI can’t help, it hands the call to your team with a summary, so whoever picks up knows why the person called. Calls are recorded and transcribed. Leads can be logged to Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho (pricing and features).

What it costs: standalone
The standalone plan is $49 a month for 100 minutes, and extra minutes cost $0.50 each pay-as-you-go, or come in extra minute bundles whose price RingCentral doesn’t publish. Calls are rounded up and billed in 30-second increments (pricing).
Take 200 calls a month at about 3 minutes each, 600 minutes:
- $49 covers the first 100 minutes.
- 500 more minutes at $0.50 add $250.
- Total: about $299 a month, or $1.50 a call.
Rounding nudges that up. A 2-minute 40-second call is billed as 3 minutes, so each call can add up to 30 billed seconds. Across 200 calls that’s at most 100 extra minutes, or $50, so budget between $300 and $350.
At low volume it looks very different. A business that sends AIR only its after-hours calls, say 30 calls at 3 minutes, stays inside 100 minutes and pays $49. That’s where AIR is good value.
What it costs: with a RingEX phone plan
If you want RingCentral to be your phone system too, AIR costs $39 a month plus RingEX Core at $30 per user a month paid monthly, or $20 per user paid annually (RingEX pricing). The minutes are the same: 100 included, $0.50 after.
For the same 600 minutes:
- 1 user, RingEX monthly: $39 + $30 + $250 overage = about $319 a month.
- 3 users, RingEX monthly: $39 + $90 + $250 = about $379.
- 3 users, RingEX annual: $39 + $60 + $250 = about $349.
That bundle buys a lot beyond answering calls: unlimited US calling, business texting, call recording, and RingCentral’s phone, video and team chat apps. If you’re replacing a phone system anyway, compare it with what you pay now. If you’re happy with your phone provider, the standalone plan is cheaper and does the same AI job.
Setup and contracts
Setup starts from your website or Google Business Profile, which AIR reads to learn your business. You connect it by forwarding calls or over SIP, and either keep your number or take a new one. Both options come with a 14-day free trial.
RingCentral’s AIR pages don’t state the contract length or any setup fee. Ask before you sign, especially if you’re buying RingEX, where the lower per-user price requires paying annually.
Some extras aren’t ready or aren’t included: Shopify and WhatsApp integrations are listed as coming soon, and the AI text agent may cost extra.

Privacy
RingCentral says AIR is HIPAA and SOC 2 compliant and that it doesn’t use your data to train its AI models (product page). For a medical office, that’s a better starting point than many smaller AI receptionists. Confirm the business associate agreement terms with sales before routing patient calls to it.
How it compares
vs Phonely. Phonely’s Professional plan covers about 650 minutes for $150 and charges $0.30 a minute after that. At 600 minutes it’s about half AIR’s price, though it books only into Google Calendar.
vs Quo. Quo is also a phone company with its own AI agent. Its pricing is per call, not per minute, and 250 calls cost $118 a month with one phone user. But Quo’s agent works only on Quo numbers, while AIR works with any phone system.
vs NextPhone. A flat $199 for unlimited calls. Past about 400 minutes a month, NextPhone costs less than standalone AIR.

Verdict
RingCentral AI Receptionist is a solid, low-risk choice for a business with modest call volume, several departments or locations, or an existing RingEX account. Its routing, six languages, HIPAA claim and any-phone-system setup are strong. The price is the weak spot: $0.50 a minute past the first 100 adds up quickly, so at 200 calls a month you’ll pay around $300 before any phone plan. Use the 14-day trial to measure your real minutes, then compare that number against the flat-rate and cheaper per-minute options.
