Arini review: an AI receptionist built for dental practices
Arini answers dental office calls 24/7 and books into Open Dental, Dentrix, Eaglesoft and more. What it does, the HIPAA side, setup time, and what to ask on the demo.
Arini is an AI receptionist made only for dental practices. It answers the phone around the clock, including after hours and when the front desk is busy, and books appointments directly into the practice management system, following your own rules for appointment types, providers, operatories and emergency slots (Arini AI receptionist).
That last part is why a dental office would choose it over a general-purpose AI receptionist. Booking a cleaning into a Google Calendar is easy. Booking it into the right chair, with the right hygienist, in a slot your scheduling rules allow, inside Dentrix, is not.
Who it’s for
Arini fits practices and groups running Open Dental, Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Eaglesoft, Denticon, CareStack, Curve Dental or Cloud 9 that lose patients to unanswered calls. The common picture is a front desk that is checking patients in at 8:15 while the phone rings, and a voicemail box full of new-patient calls on Monday morning.
It doesn’t fit a medical clinic, a specialist outside dentistry, or a practice that wants to try something cheaply this afternoon. Arini is dental only and sold only through a demo.
What patients hear
The AI answers in English and Spanish and keeps going when a caller switches language mid-call. It books appointments within your rules and answers questions about your insurance plans, hours, providers and services, drawing on what you’ve told it about the practice.
When a call needs a person, Arini transfers it to your staff with the context of the conversation so far. It escalates emergencies, upset patients, and callers who ask for a specific staff member, and alerts staff by email or text (Dentrix integration guide). Ask on the demo how a dental emergency at 10pm is handled: who gets the transfer or the alert, and what the patient is told.
Arini also offers an online scheduling widget for your website and reports on calls across locations, which matters for groups.
Outbound: the part that pays for itself
Beyond answering, Arini runs outbound call and text campaigns for reactivating lapsed patients, confirming appointments and following up on unscheduled treatment. For many practices this is where the money is: a patient who was told they need treatment and never booked is work you’ve already diagnosed. If you’re comparing Arini against a cheaper general receptionist, weigh these campaigns, not just inbound answering.
Price
Arini doesn’t publish prices. Every path on its site leads to a demo, and no free trial is mentioned. That makes a cost-per-call comparison impossible from the outside, so go into the demo with your own numbers.
A practical way to judge any quote: count your monthly calls, including missed ones. If you take 200 calls a month at about 3 minutes each, that’s 600 minutes. Ask Arini whether pricing is per minute, per call, per location or flat, and whether outbound campaigns cost extra. Then compare the monthly figure against what one new patient is worth to your practice, and how many new-patient calls you currently miss after hours. Our AI receptionist pricing guide shows what published plans from other vendors cost at similar volumes.
Also ask about contract length and any setup fee, since Arini doesn’t publish either.
HIPAA and privacy
Arini signs a Business Associate Agreement before it integrates with your system, and its blog says HIPAA compliance with a BAA is included in base pricing rather than sold as an add-on (small practices guide). It says it holds SOC 2 Type II, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and keeps audit logs for six years (Open Dental guide). It doesn’t say whether call data is used to train its models; ask if that matters to you.
That compares well with general-purpose options. Abby Connect, for instance, offers HIPAA only for its human receptionists, not its AI, and developer platforms such as Vapi charge extra for HIPAA mode.
Setup time
Setup isn’t instant. It takes days to weeks depending on your practice management system, and Arini’s own guides give different timelines. Ask for the timeline for your specific system and version. You keep your existing phone number.
Plan for your team’s time too. Someone has to tell Arini your scheduling rules, which providers do what, how emergencies are handled, and what the AI should never book. The better that brief, the fewer calls bounce back to the front desk.
Arini assigns a dedicated success manager with US-based support, which helps here.
How it compares
vs Abby Connect. Abby serves dental offices too and publishes prices, with live receptionists behind the AI. But it books into Google Calendar, Calendly, Acuity and Outlook rather than dental practice management software, and its HIPAA cover doesn’t extend to the AI.
vs a human answering service. Services like Ruby put a person on every call and include HIPAA with a BAA, but at $3.45 to $5.00 a minute and without direct booking into your dental system. See AI receptionist vs answering service.

Verdict
Arini is one of the few AI receptionists that books straight into dental practice management software under your own scheduling rules, with a BAA included and outbound recall campaigns on top. For a practice that misses calls and runs one of the systems it supports, that combination is hard to get elsewhere. The downsides are the usual ones for sales-led software: no public price, no trial, and setup measured in days or weeks. Book the demo, bring your call numbers, and get the price, term and timeline for your system in writing.
