AnswerConnect review: pricing, contracts and the people-not-bots pledge
AnswerConnect is a 24/7 human answering service with no AI option. What it costs at 200 calls a month, how minutes are counted, and when an AI receptionist fits better.
AnswerConnect is a live answering service, and proudly so. Its “Pledge People, Not Bots” promises to keep every customer interaction human, which means there is no AI receptionist at any price (AnswerConnect pledge). Receptionists working from home answer your calls 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
We cover it here because many owners comparing AI receptionists are really deciding between a bot and a person. AnswerConnect is one of the clearest examples of the person side, so this review is about what it costs, how it bills, and when an AI receptionist would serve you better.

What callers hear
A live receptionist answers in your business’s name, takes a message, routes or transfers the call, and can book an appointment. Bilingual English and Spanish answering is available as a paid add-on (bilingual service). Messages and call recordings show up in the AnswerConnect app for iPhone and Android, where you can also call and text clients from your business number (app).
Every plan includes a business phone number, or you can port your own (business phone number).
What it costs
This is the first annoyance. AnswerConnect’s main pricing link asks for your name, email and phone number before it shows anything (view pricing). Its full price list is public, though, on a separate plans page (plans).
Entry is $350 a month for 200 minutes, Growth is $395 for 300, and Standard is $575 for 400. Larger plans run from $795 for 550 minutes up to 100,000 minutes. Entry and Standard carry a one-time $49.99 setup fee; Growth doesn’t. Extra minutes cost $2.50 on Entry and $1.85 on the other plans, dropping to $1.75 on the biggest ones.
The second thing to understand is how minutes are counted. AnswerConnect’s minutes cover the whole handling time, including the work the receptionist does after hanging up, and calls are rounded up to the next full minute (homepage). The first 30 interactions under 30 seconds in each billing cycle are free (plans). So a 3-minute call does not cost 3 minutes; it costs 3 minutes plus whatever it takes to write up the message, rounded up.
Work it through for 200 calls a month at about 3 minutes of talk time each, so at least 600 billable minutes:
- Growth ($395 for 300) plus 300 extra minutes at $1.85 comes to about $950.
- Standard ($575 for 400) plus 200 extra at $1.85 comes to about $945, plus the setup fee once.
- The 550-minute plan ($795) plus 50 extra at $1.85 comes to about $888, the cheapest of the three.
Add after-call work and the real figure climbs toward $1,000 a month, or about $5 a call. Per included minute, Growth is the best value of the small plans, at about $1.32 with no setup fee.

Contracts and changing plans
Contracts roll month to month, and you can move up or down a plan before your next billing cycle (call routing page). That’s fair. There is no free trial: AnswerConnect’s own FAQ says no trial period is available for new clients (legal answering FAQ).
Software and calendars
The integration list is long: Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive and Keap for CRMs, Clio, Clio Grow and PracticePanther for law firms, Workiz and ServiceMinder for home services, and Zapier for the rest (integrations). For scheduling, AnswerConnect names Setmore and Outlook. If you book in Google Calendar, Calendly or field-service software, ask how the receptionists would get appointments into it.
For healthcare, AnswerConnect offers a HIPAA-compliant option for messages with health details in its portal (medical office answering). Its pages don’t say whether it signs a BAA, so ask before you sign.

AnswerConnect vs an AI receptionist
A human answering service earns its price when calls are high stakes and hard to script: a distressed caller, a legal intake where the wording matters, a tenant reporting a flood at midnight. People handle the unexpected better.
An AI receptionist fits better when:
- Most calls are routine. Hours, prices, directions and simple bookings don’t need a person at about $1.32 to $1.75 a minute.
- Volume swings. An AI answers many calls at once at no extra cost; a human service bills every minute of every surge.
- You want calls booked straight into your software. AI tools built for one trade, such as Sameday AI for home services or Arini for dental offices, write directly into the system you already use.
- Budget is tight. At 600 minutes a month, AnswerConnect’s plans land near $890 to $950 before after-call work; Sameday AI covers 1,000 AI minutes for $789. Our AI receptionist pricing guide works through the numbers.
There is a middle path too. Abby Connect sells an AI receptionist and live receptionists on one plan, with the AI handing off to a person mid-call. Its AI minutes cost about what AnswerConnect’s human minutes do; its human minutes cost more.
How it compares to other human services
vs Ruby. Ruby publishes its prices, has no setup fee and offers a 21-day money-back guarantee, but its minutes cost far more: about $3.45 to $5.00 each. For the same 600 minutes, Ruby starts at $1,725 plus overage. AnswerConnect is the cheaper human service. See the Ruby alternatives page for more options in both camps.
vs Abby Connect. Abby’s human minutes run about $2.76 to $3.29, more than AnswerConnect, but it publishes prices, has a free trial and can put AI on the routine calls.
Verdict
AnswerConnect is a reasonable pick if you want only humans on your phone, want month-to-month terms, and don’t need a free trial. Watch the billing details: rounding, after-call work and setup fees on two of the three plans all push the real cost above the headline. If your calls are mostly routine, compare it against the best AI answering services first, and read our AI receptionist vs answering service guide to decide which side of the line you’re on.
